Visiting The Municipality of Oslob, Cebu

This was my first time to travel from our home to the Municipality of Oslob. The travel took about more than 5 hours from Lilo-an to Oslob. And I’m also grateful because I was with my family in this adventure. When we were on board, we are able to walk across the different seaside views and the structure of the places where we are in, before we reach the place of Oslob. And when we arrived, we saw the real view of the place and how peaceful, beautiful and clean the Oslob was. And also, we have seen many foreigners there visiting and enjoying their vacations.

The first thing we went to was the Quartel in Oslob, this was our first destination where we enjoyed taking pictures  and readed about quartel history.

The term Quartel is Spanish for “barracks,” which means it as built to serve as the barracks of the Spanish army. A local historian said it was built through the effort of El Gran Maestro Don Marcus Sabandal. But, it was not completed following the arrival of the Americans in 1899. It was supposed to be the first line of defense of the naval forces of Spain in the town. The town was among the places in Cebu that had to deal with regular attacks from Moro invaders.

Our second destination was the Museo Oslob. When we’re inside, we’ve been able to discover different designs of old things.

The Oslob Museum contains some of the antiques which were contributed by the people of Oslob. Some of them are old piano, old mirror, and some other old house stuff. This museum is free entrance but you are not allowed to take pictures inside.

Our third destination was the Immaculate Conception Parish Church. We are disappointed because we cannot see the appearance inside the church, however we can still discover the beauty and old of the church.

The Immaculate Conception Church was established on May 4, 1830. While the plans of the church were made by Bishop Santos Gomes Maranon, Fr. Julian Bermejo selected the site for the church. Bishop Maranon is the same prelate behind the construction of the kiosk protecting Magellan’s Cross. Fr. Bermejo supervised the construction of the church, which was completed in 1848. Aside from the residents of Oslob, the residents of Santander, formerly Tañon, and Nueva Caceres, formerly Ivisan, helped in building the church.

Our fourth destination was the Baluarte, the Baluarte which can also be found at the Heritage park of Oslob.

Along with the other 6 watchtowers in the coastline of Oslob stood this watchtower. Baluarte means watchtower in Spanish. It was built in 1788 and served as a safe place and defense system to dispel the Moro raiders.

And finally, our last destination which is the Baywalk also called as Oslob Boulevard. Here you can see the breathtakingly beautiful pristine beaches. Also, this is where the family can relax and unwind especially during the late afternoon when the sun is already cooler.

5. Baywalk or Oslob Boulevard

Oslob’s Baywalk is one of the best in the island. What more can you wish for when you have the pristine blue seawaters of Cebu right in front of you? Plus the cold air brought about by the sea, and the pleasant surroundings of the heritage park. If you appreciated Manila’s baywalk and Palawan’s own version, you will surely appreciate Oslob’s own Baywalk. The best of the best!
